消費者金融大手のプロミスは25日、融資の際に借り手にかける生命保険の取り扱いを10月から中止すると発表した。「知らないうちに生命保険に加入させられている」との批判があるため。アコムやアイフルも廃止する方針だ。

　取り扱いをやめるのは「消費者信用団体生命保険」。消費者金融が生保に保険料を支払い、借り手が死亡した場合に保険金を受け取る。プロミスは「保険金で債務を返済でき、遺族に回収が及ぶのを防げる」として1993年に始めた。8月末時点の加入者は227万人。

　保険料の支払額が受取額を年間で数億円上回っているほか、生命保険協会の指針改定により加入時の本人確認手続きが煩雑になることも考慮し、中止を決めたという。保険を廃止すれば、遺族が債務を相続する場合に回収をどうするかが課題になる。プロミスは「顧客や遺族の状況を十分に考慮し、適法に対応する」としており、回収を自粛することもあるとみられる。
